In May 2009, a team of 36 raised over 17,500 Euros!!! Download news here
The students at Kao la Tumaini School walked 12 km in solidarity. The money is keeping their school running for a year. The school continues to grow and in 2010 there are 155 students. Government inspectors have agreed to register the school, and the first group of students will take their national exams in November.
These students WANT to go to school, to become qualified and to make a difference in their community. They need 20,000 Euros from the 20k in 2010 to keep the school running this year. Your money provides books, food and pays qualified teachers. Contact Tanya at 20k@giraffeproject.org to register by Feb 19th! Sponsor the runners by donating via Justgiving or our special event account: The Giraffe Project Belgium: 001-5771382-55. (Note this is NOT the same account used for other donations and sponsorships)
Shacks made of mud, sticks and corrugated iron sheets, sewage-strewn streets, unemployment, shortage of water, hunger. In Korogocho slum, (the word means “rubbish”) tens of thousands of teenagers roam the streets without hope, in the knowledge they are indeed on the scrap heap of society. Kao la Tumaini means 'Door of Hope'. This school is unique in that it offers traditional Kenyan Secondary schooling coupled with vocational training in skills such as computers, tailoring and hairdressing. The building with 6 classrooms, offices and a hall was funded by the Giraffe Project and opened in 2008. Giraffe Project provides over 90% of the funds for the running of the school. Your support is changing lives. Thank you.
